“So, let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
—Galatians 6:9

As a breast cancer survivor and a mother of four, I have had, and continue to have, my share of weak and weary moments. A year of non-stop chemotherapy brought with it its own dose of fatigue, but being a mom and wife took even more energy from me. And then there’s other things that came to zap it away, including bearing grudges and unforgiveness against those in my past, and burdens I took on from others, even at the expense of my own well-being.

Needless to say, I know what tired is and feels like. Following Christ, however, put a whole new spin on it for me. This verse from Galatians, reminds me of the hope that lies ahead, and spurs me on to continue doing what is right, despite how I feel or what I perceive is happening around me (though this is not always an easy place to get to). I have very dark days that contrast with periods where I experience high hopes and great expectations of the future. Often I have no idea how I will be faring from one day to the next, which is exasperating for my family, but deeply disturbing and discouraging for me.

Endurance and patience must find their way into our hearts and minds if we are to stay on the path God has called us to follow. Somewhere down the road is a big finish line. But in the meantime, we all have goals He is asking us to accomplish, and there are rewards waiting for us as we face these battles and win. May we not give up easily, nor lie down in defeat in our moments of weariness, but continue in pursuing the purpose for which we were sent.
